Conference
Building the Arc of Justice

The Life and Legal Thought of Derrick Bell
Western New England University School of Law
Sponsored by the School of Law's Center for Gender and Sexuality Studies
Friday, September 28, 2012
In October of last year the world lost one of the greatest legal minds of our times and a leading creator of critical race theory. Then just five months after his passing, Derrick Bell came back into the spotlight when he was characterized, by conservative media, as a race radical and father of a fringe legal theory as part of a larger attack against President Barack Obama. This conference, “Building the Arc of Justice,” will delve underneath both sensational punditry and overly simplistic praise to critically explore many themes related to the life, legal thought, and legacy of Derrick Bell.
